ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਇਕ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਗੋਲੂ, ਮੌਲੂ, ਸੋਨੂੰ, ਗਰਿਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ। ਉਹ ਕਦੀ ਵੀ ਆਪਸ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੜਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਗਰੀਬ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤਮੰਦ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ “ਗੋਲੂ ਗੈਂਗ’ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਬੁਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਗੋਲੂ ਗੈਂਗ ਸਕੂਲ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਪਿਸ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਜ਼ੋਰਦਾਰ ਚੀਕ ਸੁਣੀ ‘‘ਬਚਾਓ-ਬਚਾਓ’’ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਛੋਟੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ੋਰ-ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੀ ਚੀਕਦੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਪਟਾਖਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਸੜ ਜਲ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਗੋਲੂ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਨੇੜੇ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਨਲ ਟੂਟੀ) ‘ਤੇ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਸੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੱਥ ਨੂੰ ਦਸ ਮਿੰਟ ਤੱਕ ਵੱਗਦੇ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਥੱਲੇ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਧੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਗਏ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਲੜਕੇ ਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੋਲੂ ਗੈਂਗ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਬੱਚੇ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਸਨ।
ਉਹ ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ। ਰੌਸ਼ਨੀ ਦੇ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਨ। ਗਰਿਮਾ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਕੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਹੈ ?”
ਸੋਨੂੰ ਨੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਅਸੀਂ ਪਟਾਖੇ ਚਲਾਵਾਂਗੇ ; ਮੋਮਬੱਤੀਆਂ ਜਲਾਵਾਂਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਢੇਰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਠਿਆਈਆਂ ਖਾਵਾਂਗੇ।” ਰੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਤਾ-ਪਿਤਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਪੋਸ਼ਾਕ ਪਹਿਨੇਗੀ। ਗੋਲੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮਿੱਤਰੋਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਪਟਾਖੇ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ। ਅਸੀਂ ਹਰੀ ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਮਨਾਵਾਂਗੇ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਟਾਖੇ ਖ਼ਤਰਨਾਕ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।” ਸੋਨੂੰ ਹੱਸਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ। ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਗੋਲੁ ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਡਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈਂ ?”
ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਡਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਪਟਾਖੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਦਰੱਖਤ (ਪੇੜ ਲਗਾਵਾਂਗੇ।
ਗੋਲ ਗੈਂਗ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ। ਸਾਰੇ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਚੀਕਾਂ ਮਾਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ, “ਇਹ ਇਕ ਚੰਗਾ ਸੁਝਾਵ ਹੈ।” ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ‘ਤੇ ਗੋਲੂ ਗੈਂਗ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ 50 ਪੇੜ (ਦਰੱਖਤ ਲਗਾਏ ਪੰਚਾਇਤ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਪੇੜ (ਦਰੱਖਤ ਥੱਲੇ ਇਕ-ਇਕ ਦੀਵਾ ਬਾਲਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗ਼ਰੀਬ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਠਿਆਈਆਂ ਵੰਡੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾਏ, ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨੱਚੇ ॥ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਅਲੱਗ ਢੰਗ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹਰੀ ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਮਨਾਈ। ਇਹ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਦੀਵਾਲੀ ਸੀ।
